Fossil leaf of a plane tree (Platanus sp.). Platanus is a genus of trees that lived from the Cretaceous period. They belong to the oldest known angiosperm families. Many fossils of plane leaves and fruit have been found. Plane trees are also known as sycamore trees. This specimen is from Eocene deposits of the Green River formation in Colorado, USA.
