Cockchafer (Melolontha melolontha), also known as the maybug or doodlebug. The adults usually emerge in warm evenings during May and June living for around 7 weeks. The larvae develops underground for around three years feeding on plant roots. Cockchafers are found widely across the UK and Europe. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in July.
