Roesel's bush-cricket (Metrioptera roeselii), a medium sized and robust cricket. It has a single generation each year, with female crickets cutting open grass stems with their ovipositor to lay eggs. Roesel's bush-cricket is found across southern and central Europe. In the UK it is was restricted to coastal marsh areas but is now expanding its range across different habitats. This individual is in the mid to late instar of its lifecycle. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in June.
