Joseon, Korea: The Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara, 15th-17th century. The Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara is the embodiment of the virtue of compassion and became the most important deity in Buddhism around the sixth century. The design of this statue represents the reign of Emperor Yongle of the Ming dynasty, China (early 15th century). Joseon (1392-1897).
