US Air Force aircraft over a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon as it hovers over the central continental United States on 3rd February 2023. The US Air Force shot the balloon down off the coast of South Carolina, USA, on 4th February. Recovery of the debris concluded on the 17th February. The Chinese government claimed that the balloon was a civilian craft conducting meteorological research that had been blown off course.
