Tumour adipose tissue. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section of adipose tissue from a sarcoma. This image is from an alveolar soft part sarcoma, or ASPS, a cancer that can come from different types of soft tissue, such as muscle, fat, or nerves. It may also be called alveolar soft tissue sarcoma, alveolar sarcoma of soft parts, or ASP sarcoma. Here the adipose tissue forms part of the supporting connective tissue and consists of empty adipocyte (fat) cells where the lipid content has been removed in the processing leaving behind the thin surrounding cell cytoplasm and membrane. Yellow connective tissue divides the adipose tissue. Magnification: x40 when printed 10cm wide.
