City of Barletta; museum Cantina della Disfida (Cellar of the Challenge): sculpture "Disfida di Barletta 13.2.1503" ("Challenge of Barletta 13th of February 1503"); built 1866 by sculptor Achille Stocchi from Rome; donation of him to the city of Barletta; The Challenge of Barletta was won by 13 Italian knights against 13 French knights. Tradition wants; that the beginning of the challenge started here in this cellar on 15th of January 1503; when French knight Charles de la Motte questioned the courage of the Italian knights; during a banquet. The museum was opened in 1938. Most important Italian knight was Ettore Fieramosca. All Italian knights are honored on Piazza della Sfida with a monument: the basement of the monument was built 1930; the bronze plaque with list of names of the 13 Italian knights was made 1903.
