He was subsequently the target of numerous criticisms and died having lost all literary credit. On commission from Tretyakov, in March-April 1880 Repin painted a portrait of a forgotten, aging and sick Pissemsky. In the spring of 1881, shortly after the writer\'s death, the portrait, presented at the ninth exhibition of The Ambulants, was highly praised by critics.); Photo by Sylvain Collet.
