Light micrograph of prostate tissue with cystic atrophy. Cystic atrophy is formed of glands that are dilated (white spaces). The cells lining the dilated glands have lost most of their cytoplasm, giving the lining cells the dark blue colour of their remaining nuclei. Cystic atrophy is a benign condition and does not develop into or increase the risk for prostate cancer. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 40x when printed at 10 cm.
