History of Africa. 19th century. The Congo. Leopoldville station. Panoramic view of the trading post and port from Ngaliema Bay in 1884. It was the first main Colonial Post near Stanley Pool. Henry Morton Stanley established this trading post on the shore of Ngaliema Bay in 1881 naming it Leopoldville, delegating the settlement to Anthony Swinburne (c.1858-1889). Engraving.
