A monument to the emancipation of the slaves on Haiti, is erected under a stone gazebo built in the classical style atop several steps. Two Haitian soldiers guard the commemoration. Haiti was the only colony during the French Revolutionary Wars to achieve full independence, and is considered the only large-scale slave led revolution that succeeded. Date: 1801
