Foundling Hospital situated in Guildford Street in London, founded by a philanthropist, Thomas Coram. Cradling their young infants under two months, poor mothers came on 'receiving day,? to hand over their babies, with no questions asked, knowing they would be looked after and receive food and education. On admission the babies were re-named, so the only way of identify the child in the future was to leave them a small token like: a bracelet, coin or a scrap of fabric. Date: 1883
