Tuscany; Castellina in Chianti; Tenuta Nittardi (Nittardi Estate); sculpture garden: terracotta lion; unknown artist; one of 15 lions in the sculpture garden; Tenuta Nittardi dates back to a defense tower; first mentioned in 1183 and called "Nectar Dei" ("Nectar of God"). In 16th century; Michelangelo Buonarotti (1475 - 1564) owned this wine estate. In 1549; while painting the Sixtine Chapel in the Vaticane; he wrote to nephew Leonardo: "I'd prefer two casks of wine rather than eight shirts." Today; the estate is owned by German art gallery owner Peter Femfert and his wife; historian Stefania Canali. The winery of the estate is run by son Leon Femfert; philosopher and enologist. Each year; since 1981; a special artists wine edition of new Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa Chianti Classico DOCG wine is launched as a hommage to Michelangelo. Artists from all over the world have taken part and creatd special wine labels and wrapping paper; including Hundertwasser; Corneille; A.R. Penck; Mitoraj; Yoko Ono; Karl Otto G鰐z and two Nobel Prize for Literature winners; G黱ter Grass (1927 - 2015) and Dario Fo (1926 - 2016). Most impressing is the sculpture garden of Nittardi Estate. Here; sculptors like Victor Roman; Friedensreich Hundertwasser; Igor Mitoraj; Horst Antes; Miguel Berrocal; Dietrich Klinge; Paul Wunderlich; Raymond Waydelich; Giuliano Ghelli; Heiner Meyer; Klaus Zylla; and Riccardo Cordero have placed works.
