Petrus Hellmer; Lute; Choir Lute (alto); Wood; Total: Length: 800 mm; Width: 335 mm; Height: 164 mm; Note (instrument making): inside the body: Petrus Helmer in Fue遝n; 1614; Stringed instruments; Renaissance; This lute shows the classical lute form in the tradition of the instrument makers of Fue遝n. The pear-shaped vaulted body is composed of 35 wooden shavings separated by fine black and white decorative bands. The lute maker Petrus Hellmer was probably a relative of the well-known lute makers Magnus Hellmer I and II from F黶sen. F黶sen was an important center of lute making. It was located on the old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta; the long-distance trade route connecting Italy with Northern Europe. In 1562 the lute makers of F黶sen joined together to form the first lute makers guild in Europe.
