Collection Reimers (Hamburg); clay; hand-modeled; pressed into the mold; disc-shaped; painted (ceramic); clay; Total: Height: 20.5 cm; Width: 8.6 cm; Depth: 7.6 cm; Diameter: 8.8 cm (8.5-8.8 cm bowl); ceramic; woman; ornaments; meander; antiquity; The candelabra in the shape of a standing woman with a bowl on her head was used as an incense burner or to hold an oil lamp The flat front of the figure is vertically divided into a patterned and a plain red part with incised lines of folds; which also covers the rounded back. The garment; which reaches down to the floor; swings out bell-shaped; the hem has a dark brown meander border. The patterned fabric of the right half is probably the end of the shoulder coat. A meandering plastic border runs across the skirt; which is led diagonally upwards on the left back of the figure. There is a double row of large buttons with three to four smaller buttons just below the waist. Above the narrow waist; the severely shortened lower arms protrude from a shawl. In her hands the figure holds fruit: in her right hand a pomegranate; in her left probably a pine cone. On the chest there are two garland-shaped ornamental pendants with central agraffes; another; arching one on the back; which is attached to the shoulders with two agraffes. The face is simply worked. Eyebrows; eyes and mouth are indicated in brown painting. The hair is braided over the forehead and falls down from the back of the head in a dovetail shape. The neck is decorated with two large disc earrings. Around the neck the figure wears a double chain of small decorative discs. The bowl painted with an olive branch and crow's feet rests on a cushion. Exact parallels are not known. The design of the clothing as well as antiquarian details can be compared to Daunian ceramics.
