Scotland; Aberdeenshire; Ballater; village of Crathie: marble bust of Queen Victoria in Crathie Kirk; built 1893 - 1895 by architect A. Marshall Mackenzie; Crathie Kirk is a small parish church of the Church of Scotland and was built in Gothic Revvial style (Neo-gothic style). On the current site; an earlier church had been built; in 1804. Crathie Kirk is the regular place of worship of the British Royal family when they are in nearby Balmoral Castle. Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone of the church in 1893 and donated two stained glass windows. King George V (1865 - 1936; ruled 1910 - 1936) donated a communion table. The oldest church here at the banks of river Dee dated back to 9th century. The ruins of a later church (13th or 14th century) can be seen on the old cemetery; where one can find also the grave of John Brown with inscription "personal attendant and beloved friend of Queen Victoria".
