IMPORTANT AND LARGE BRONZE OF A GRANDFATHER AND HIS LITTLE GRANDSON.

Origin: Japan.
Dynasty: Meiji period (1868-1912).
Technique: Bronze with shiny chocolate brown patina.
Description: The magnificently designed figure shows an elderly grandfather between whose legs his
little grandson romps around. The gentleman is dressed in a long waistcoat over the kimono
with narrow trousers; the boy in a kimono. The faces are of great presence; the hair and
hands very vividly reproduced.
Measurement: H.54cm.
Signature: On the circular plinth sign.: Kaniya Kuniharu.
Condition A/B.

Kaniya Kuniharu (1852-1934) is considered one of the most important artists for bronze figures of the Meiji period. In 1907 he was one of the founding members of the Tokyo Metal Foundry Association. His works were already represented at the world exhibition in Paris 1900 .
