Cameroon; Mount Cameroon; harvesting the bark of the African plum or African stinkwood (Prunus africana). The bark is used in traditional African medicine against malaria; fever and abdominal pain. It has recently been used in Western medicine as a remedy for prostate ailments. The African plum only grows in tropical mountain forests. A project in the Mount Cameroon nature reserve is trying to use the endangered plant species sustainably and to create a livelihood for the local population.Mount Cameroon (Cameroon); October 2002.
