Phenomena in connection with the Planet Mercury have since some time been considered by scientists as a good testing ground for Einsteins theory. Since things in connection with this planet can not satisfactorily be explained with Newton's classic law of gravity it had been suggested that the explanation can be found by applying the theory of relativity. On the 11th of November the Mercury crossed the surface of the Sun. This rare occurence gave astronomers a chance for observations, resulting in the finding that the passage of the Mercury occurred half a minute ahead of schedule as set by calculations based upon the Newton Law.
