Folding screen painted with Japanese scenes; folding screen with six panels; made of wood; covered on both sides with paper; with paper hinges (two whole and two half). The whole is bordered with slats of black lacquered wood; reinforced with gilt copper fittings. The front is painted inside a yellow-green frame with a representation of a Japanese interior with tatami mats and an open wall; a garden with a fence; peonies and grass; clouds and a moon; executed in gouache and gold leaf over thicker 'blobs' of paint applied with a brush. The reverse side is covered with gray Japanese paper; afterwards (so after the paper has already been glued to the screen) with a stencil or template painted in black with geometric motifs in circles.
