Strip of spool lace with ribbons forming a symmetrical pattern from above; Natural spool of lace strip; Russian lace. The strip shows a part of a symmetrical pattern; a piece of the pattern along the bottom is missing. The pattern is formed by two ribbons that run towards each other along the top of the strip. At the point where the two ribbons meet; they make a large S-shaped bend in the opposite direction; and then swing towards each other again along the underside. The ribbon is made in densely worked linen stroke; with open worked edges and the S-shaped bend is made in net stroke. Embossed contours are formed by a braid. At the part of the ribbon that is made in linen; this braid runs over the middle. At the part of the ribbon that is made in net stroke; the braid splits and runs along the outer edges of the ribbon. The pattern is made by a decorative ground of four-pointed stars with braids kept in shape and by a diamond-shaped mesh ground. In the center is a flower with eight petals; made in shape.
