The boat may have been derived from the Le Douze Mois Grotesques carpet series designed by Claude III Audran (1658-1734) around 1709; which was printed by Jean Audran (1667-1756). A similar boat can be seen on the print with the first two months in February. Instead of Neptunes; the god of protection of February; the painting shows the sea god Okeanos.
