OKIMONO OF AN ELDERLY GENTLEMAN WITH THREE BOYS.

Japan. Meiji period (1868-1912). Master of the T鬹y?School. Ivory; very finely adn detailed carved. Leading a son by the hand; carrying the youngest on the other arm; while the eldest of the three boys grabs his father's right sleeve. The two older children; each with an apple in his hand. The youngest eagerly looking down from above at the apple his older brother is offering him. The scene is very lively due to a highly realistic representation of the figures. Their faces are expressive and masterfully designed. Small details like the sagemono on the father's and two of the children's belt are exquisitely carved. Unmistakably the okimono comes from the master hand of a carver of the T鬹y?School. Height 17cm. Sign.: Hiroko. Condition A/B.Please note that this object is made of materials; for whose export into countries outside the EU contract area a permission due to Cites regulations is necessary. We point out that such a permission is usually not given.Art trade; Van Ham.
