GIJSBRECHTS; FRANCISCUS
was active ca. 1672 in the Netherlands - attributed

Vanitas. Oil on canvas. Relined. 65;5 x 51cm. Framed.

Franciscus Gijsbrechts is often confused with Cornelis Norbertus Gijsbrechts. The present painting strongly resembles a work auctioned in London (Christie's) on December 13; 1991 as: auctioned piece by 'Cornelis Norbertus Gijsbrechts' (Cf. RKD; The Hague artwork number 205145). In addition to the lobed goblet there is also a depiction of the tree in that painting. The clef 'alla Breve' represented here can also be read as the ligated monogramme GJ.
