INRO: CHINESE LADY; FLOWERING TWIGS IN A BRONZE POT
19th Century.
Saya-Inro with a four-piece interior; on the outside completely covered with dense kinji; on the inside nashiji.
Sheath: dense kinji. In a very high relief with applications of mother of pearl and porcelainstanding Chinese lady with swinging robe and sleeves; holding a stiff fan from blue and white porcelain in her right hand; her whitish face made of Tridacna mother of pearl has a 'serene' expression. Verso flowering twigs in a Chinese bronze pot in coloured takamakie with inlays of white mother of pearl; coral; stones and white lead. Signed in gold varnish: Ogawa Ryuo Ritsuo & Red lacquer seal: Kan. According to the statement of Takao Yoh (2005) this could be the work of Teiji; who is responsible for a series of Ritsuo signed Inro. Cp. a very similar piece in the Metropolitain Museum and another one with a similar floral arrangement of the collection Garie; no. 305. Ojime of ceramics with coloured relief. H. 8;7 cm.
