Kindler; who was originally from Munich; already changed to D黶seldorf and the D黶seldorf Academy during his studies. Because he was not able to afford an own atelier in the beginning; he found a place at his friend and painter Rudolf Jordan. Similarly to the latter he made a name for himself as a genre painter; as a painter of the idyllic and often humorously depicted rural life. These subjects appealed to the emerging bourgeoisie and the families of industrials. While Jordan finds his motifs at the coast and in fishermen's families; Kindler created scenes from his south German home area and from the Rhine Valley. In 1858 he had his breakthrough as a known and highly-demanded painter with his motif "Wedding Procession at the Rhine"; which is today mainly known as "After the Wegging Ceremony". A short time later it was engraced in steel and brought closer to a larger public. Kindler painted this motif in various versions; some of which can still be found in museums today.Art trade; Van Ham.
