East India. Pala Sena period. 11th -12th c.

Black stone with residue of pigments. The small; exquisitely carved figure of Ganesha is sitting in lalit鈙ana on a double lotus base. His swayed trunk picks sweets from the bowl in his left hand; while the right hand holds his broken tusk. As the son of Shiva and Parvati he is a gracious; humorous and playful god who is venerated to remove any obstacles in one's life. Height 10cm. Condition A/B.
