Richard Kandt / doctor; African researcher; Germany; born Richard Kantorowicz on December 17th; 1867 in 躊osen; died on April 29th; 1918 in Nuremberg.From 1897 researched the northwest of the German colony "German East Africa"; discovered a source of the Nile. In 1906 he was appointed imperial resident in the Kingdom of Banyarwanda (Rwanda). This was the official representative of the German Reich in the autonomous kingdom; which belonged to "German East Africa". In 1907 he founded his Kigali residence. Today the Kandt House is a museum on the history of Rwanda. The house is the last remnant of the German colonial era in Rwanda. Photos show the condition of the house before it was renovated in 2003.Kigali; undated (1990s).
