Andrew Grima was born on May 31; 1921 in Rome. After being an engineer at the seventh Indian division in Burma; he joined the jewellery shop of his father-in-law as the responsible designer in London in 1946. He took over the business in 1951. His organic and innovative designs; which brought him numerous prizes and awards; made him the leading jewellery designer in London in the 1960s and 1970s. In 1966 he won the "Duke of Edinburgh's Prize for Elegant Design". Until today he is the only jewellery designer who was awarded this prize. In the same year he got the royal assertion for jewellery supply until he moved to Switzerland in 1986. In this period he designed; amongst others; jewellery for the Queen Mother; Princess Margaret; and the Duke of Edinburgh. After his death in 2007 his wife Jojo and his daughter Francesca took over the business.Art trade; Van Ham.
