Swabian private collection.

The present painting originated in Troyon's best period of work.
The masters of the school of Barbizon linked their criticism regarding the destruction of the natural forest of Fontainebleau to the motif of the lumberjack. And they did so successfully. Thanks to their initiative Napol閛n III put large parts of the forest under conservation in 1853 and extended the conservation in 1861.Art trade; Van Ham.
