HUGE WINE STORAGE JAR.
China. Ming Dynasty. Dated 1596. Cizhou oven.
Heavy; yellowish brown stoneware with white slip. Thin; transparent; partly crazed glaze. Painted with manganese brown. Egg-shaped on flat base; with a wide opening with short neck. In sketchy drawing bands with leaves and characters. Height 68cm; ?42cm. Condition B/C. A hole in the wall. Smaller part of the glaze flaking off.
