Tuscany; San Gimignano; Piazza della Cisterna: upper part of the Cisterna (fountain) of 1287 in front of the two Ardinghelli towers and the huge Torre Grossa of Palazzo Comunale (town hall); the fountain which gave the square its name was built in 1287 of travertine and was placed on an octagonal pedestal. In 1346; under the rule of local podest?Guccio Malavolti; it was extended. Around the square; there are several houses and tower houses of 12th and 13th century with huge medieval towers.
