Germany; State Brandenburg; district Uckermark; municipality Boitzenburger Land: ruined walls of former Boitzenburg Monastery; built 1271; destroyed 1637. Boitzenburg monastery was donated; in 1271; by the three margraves (German: Markgrafen) Johann II; Otto IV and Konrad of Brandenburg with huge areas of land. It was erected in the same time; when famous nearby Chorin monastery was built. The monastery was a Cistercian nuns monastery. it closed 1536; in times of Lutheran reformation; due to the secularization. In 1538; Hans von Arnim; bailiff (German: Landvogt) of the Uckermark area; became new owner of the monastery and the monastery grounds. The noble von Arnim family remained owner; until 1945. During the Thirty Years`War (1618 - 1648); the monastery was totally destroyed; by Danish troops; in 1637.
