Tintoretto (Jacopo Robusti): Two Apostles; Tintoretto (Jacopo Robusti); Late 16th century; Oil on canvas; This painting by the Venetian artist Jacopo Tintoretto is likely a fragment of (or perhaps a study for) a larger painting of the Last Supper. The image depicts two apostles seated at a table in conversation in front of a loaf of bread and a chalice; to indicate the Eucharist. Although the apostles are unnamed; we can speculate on their identities by looking at other Renaissance examples of the Last Supper; such as the famous fresco by Leonardo da Vinci in Milan. Based on their placement; the figures here might be Saint Peter on the right (his white beard and hair are similar to other representations of the saint); and possibly Saint Andrew to the left.; Overall: 18 1/2 x 15 1/4 in. (47 x 38.7 cm)
