Boudicea (died in AD60 or 61) was a queen of the British Celtic Iceni tribe who led a violent but ultimately unsuccessful uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire. She has since become an icon of the British spirit and heroism. The famous statue of Boudicea - and her daughters - in her war chariot was executed by Thomas Thornycroft over the 1850s and 1860s with the encouragement of Prince Albert, who lent his horses for use as models. It now resides at the north end of Westminster Bridge, seemingly charging the Houses of Parliament.
