The Shard is a 95-storey skyscraper in Southwark, London. Located by London Bridge and standing 309.6 metres (1,016 ft) high, it is currently the tallest building in the European Union. Its construction began in March 2009 and it was inaugurated on 6 July 2012. In the foreground, we see HMS Belfast, a Royal Navy light cruiser which saw active service in World War 2. It has now become a museum ship and tourist attraction, permanently moored in London on the River Thames and operated by the Imperial War Museum.
