Light micrograph of a human large bowel, or colon, wall stained with the PAS method and counterstained with haematoxylin and eosin. The mucosa layer shows Lieberkuhn crypts with goblet cells stained with the PAS method. The submucosa shows a lymphoid follicle. The external muscular layer is discontinuous (taeniae coli).
