Guilin, China 1981; Guilin, in China's far SE Guangxi Province, lies by the banks of the river Li; it is famed in Chinese painting and poetry for its distinctively shaped Karst limestone hills and caves - some of the former we can see here. I was living in Hong Kong at the time, and took the opportunity to join one of the very first tourist trips to the country after it re-opened to the outside world. It was full of professional photographers. Eventually, I became one myself.
