Edward S. Ayensu was Chairman of the Department of Botany at the time. During his twenty years at the Smithsonian Institution, he was a director and senior scientist. Ayensu currently serves as an international development advisor; he is on the board of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) Ghana and is the President of the Energy Globe Foundation.
