6404845 Weapon Training, 19th century (woodblock print on paper) by Japanese School, (19th century); 37.4x76 cm; Maidstone Museum and Art Gallery, Kent, UK; (add.info.: Showing 4 vibrantly coloured and stylised figures, possibly during a weapon training session. Triptych (3 portrait oriented prints linked to form a landscape orientation image). Left panel shows 2 figures in highly decorated robes one crouching facing left, one behind standing, facing the right with arms raised. A brown and yellow/gold cabinet is in the background, far left. A wooden shaft, possibly from a practice weapon, lays in front of them in the foreground. The central panel shows a single male figure, facing towards the two younger figures in the first panel, with arm raised, holding a fan, angry expression on his face, he holds a similar wooden staff in the other hand and has a long sword on his belt, he is possibly a weapon trainer. His robes too are very decorative. Right panel depicts a large male figure in long, dramatic, black robes with decorated sleeves and black headdress, he has blue elements to his face and carried two swords. He looks towards the left to the other figures. A flowing pattern runs across the top of all 3 prints, similar to the undulating fabric of a tent. Unknown); by Maidstone Museum and Art Gallery.
