Rounded base with tripod legs, circular rim, and kidney-shaped section cut from side. Pierced decoration of heart-shaped petals, and two lion-shaped handles on either side, pierced through. A smaller cylindrical section sits inside rim of base section, similarly decorated with two small lugs on either side, also pierced through. Lid has small knob. Cream-coloured ceramic with transparent crackle glaze decorated with 16-petal chrysanthemum crests in underglaze blue and brown. Maker\'s seal on base: Taizan. Taizan kilns. Place: Kyoto, Yamashiro, Japan. Creator: Awata Ware from Taizan kilns.
