Jivan Ram, known as Raja Jivan Ram, was a Delhi artist and it is likely that this portrait was painted when the 39th (Dorsetshire) Regiment of Foot were stationed at Agra in 1844-1845. Munro had entered that regiment as an ensign in 1834 when they were stationed in India. He was wounded at the Battle of Maharajpore in Gwalior (1843). Munro was later the Lieutenant-Colonel commanding the 39th at the Siege of Sevastopol during the Crimean War (1854-1856). He was made a Companion of the Bath in 1857.); by National Army Museum .
