5890631 Witch riding backwards on a goat, c.1505 (Burin engraving) by Durer or Duerer, Albrecht (1471-1528); 11.5x7.1 cm; Private Collection; (add.info.: The witch here sits backwards on a leaping goat, a symbol of lust and embodiment of the devil at the time, surrounded by four putti: one of whom is carrying a pot for her cauldron, another holds a thorn apple plant, an ingredient with magical properties, while a third points his bottom towards the viewer, possibly to break wind. As witchcraft was thought to reverse the natural order of things, so as the witch\'s hair streams in one direction, the goat and drapery go the opposite way. Even the artist\'s familiar monogram has letters reversed.); Luisa Ricciarini.
