3247861 Captain Rostron of the Carpathia is presented with the American Cross of Honour, 1913 (b/w photo) by Harris & Ewing (1905-45); Private Collection; (add.info.: RMS TITANIC struck an iceberg in April 1912 and sank, killing more than 1,500 people. Survivors were picked up by RMS Carpathia and taken to New York. The survivors awarded Arthur Henry Rostron (1869-1940) a silver loving cup and a gold medal in recognition of his heroism. The following year Lord Bryce, then British Ambassador at Washington presented him with the American Cross of Honour, awarded by the American Cross of Honour Society ); American, out of copyright.
