It had mostly been destroyed after the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century. Local artist John Storey\'s imaginative reconstruction shows monks grouped in the choir stalls, and an illuminated Bible on a carved stand. The ornate decoration and the bright colours of the scene are characteristic of mid-19th century taste.
