1081524 Red Manor House Appliqu矇 Coverlet, 1840-60 (textile) by English School, (19th century); Quilt Museum and Gallery, York; (add.info.: Appliqu矇 Frame Coverlet with a central motif of a Red Manor House surrounded by flowers and domestic/rural animals. The subsequent frames are divided into squares, with each one containing a different appliqu矇 motif including flowers, plant pots, animals and houses. Each appliqu矇 motif has decorative herringbone embroidery stitch to cover the edges and each square is surrounded by a printed cotton border. The outer border is a woven striped cotton and the coverlet is backed with white linen. The family that this piece came from were thought to have emigrated to South Africa, which could account for the appliqu矇 lions motifs.
