Guilin's Dragon Boat Festival is held on the fifth day of the fifth month (May) of the Chinese lunar calendar every 3 years. The festival was originally held in memory of the great Chinese poet, Quyuan. The name Guilin means ˉCassia Woodsˇ and is named after the osmanthus (cassia) blossoms that bloom throughout the autumn period. Guilin is the scene of Chinaˇs most famous landscapes, inspiring thousands of paintings over many centuries. The ˉfinest mountains and rivers under heavenˇ are so inspiring that poets, artists and tourists have made this Chinaˇs number one natural attraction.
