961141 Page from Regime et Gouvernement des Princes (colour litho) by Flemish School, (15th century) (after); Private Collection; (add.info.: Choice examples of book illumination. Facsimles from illuminated manuscripts and illustrated books of early date. A Prince receiving an envoy, from the \'Gouvernement des Princes,\' written about 1490. The \'Regime et Gouvernement des Princes,\' a text book of statecraft for young kings, was written for Charles d\'Angouleme between 1480 and 1490. The illustration reproduced belongs in its character to the new Flemish School, but a trace of the now fast disappearing Gothic. The elaborate backgrounds of the new school are here, lending an air of completeness to the picture, and the improvement in drawing necessitated by the use of the camaieu method is visible.
