498765 Baby cot of the Prince Imperial, given by the City of Paris to Empress Eug矇nie in 1856 (b/w photo) by Baltard, Victor (1805-74); 214x159x65 cm; Musee de la Ville de Paris, Musee Carnavalet, Paris, France; (add.info.: Napol矇on Eug癡ne Louis Jean Joseph (1856 - 1879) Prince Imperial, only child of Emperor Napoleon III of France and Empress Consort Eug矇nie de Montijo; the cradle, made of rosewood, enamel and silver, was a gift from the city of Paris at a cost of 156,839 francs and the shape of a ship was taken from the coat of arms of Paris; at the prow of the cradle is an eagle sculpted by Henri Jacquemart and at the poop the female figure was made by Pierre-Charles Simart and represents the city of Paris supporting the imperial crown; on the sides of the cradle there are four S癡vres medallions of blue enamel based on designs by Hippolyte Flandrin with representations of the cardinal virtues of Prudence, Justice, Temperance and Courage; in 1902 Empress Eug矇nie donated the cradle to Carnavalet Museum;); French, out of copyright.
