The Federal-style brick house was sold to Frederick Billings in 1869. It underwent major renovations, conducted by William Ralph Emerson. He transformed the mansion into a fashionable Stick style house. Billings ordered a second renovation in 1885. Henry Hudson Holly remodelled the house into the Queen Anne style.
